Happy Friday, Northern Virginia!
In this week’s update:
🎡 Prince William County Fair Returns August 8–16 with Rides, Rodeos, and Real Virginia Charm: Virginia’s largest fair returns August 8–16 with carnival rides, rodeos, 4-H showcases, and more. Here’s everything you need to know for this summer tradition in Manassas.
🏈 Commanders Pitch Year-Round Stadium Plan with 200+ Events in D.C.: The Commanders are planning 200+ annual events at their proposed roofed stadium at RFK, aiming to transform the venue into a year-round hub for concerts, sports, and community events.
🏛️ Virginia’s Most-Hated Car Tax Could Be Axed—But at a $2.5–3 Billion Hole for Local Budgets: Both gubernatorial candidates support cutting Virginia’s unpopular car tax, but replacing its $2.5–3 billion in annual revenue would pose a massive budget challenge for local governments.
🎡 Prince William County Fair 2025: Virginia’s Largest County Fair Returns to Manassas for 9 Days of Family Fun
Driving the news: The Prince William County Fair — Virginia’s largest and longest-running county fair — returns to Manassas from August 8–16, 2025, promising another epic mix of rides, agriculture, and hometown charm.
Details: Held at the Prince William County Fairgrounds, the event features:
Carnival rides by Deggeller Attractions
4-H livestock shows and youth competitions
Rodeos, demolition derbies, and live music
Petting zoos, food vendors, pageants, and more
Admission is expected to range from $15–$25, with unlimited ride wristbands from $15–$35. Most grandstand events require a separate $2 ticket.
Why it matters: Beyond the fun, the fair drives serious impact:
Boosts small businesses and tourism
Supports youth agriculture through 4-H
Brings together families across Northern Virginia
With close to 100,000 visitors annually, it’s a huge win for local culture and the economy.
What’s next: Mark your calendars — and if you’ve got kids, check out the 4-H Fair Camp (Aug. 11–15) for ages 5–12. Full-day planning is key, and the event goes on rain or shine.
The bottom line: For a true slice of Virginia summer — from funnel cake to Ferris wheels — nothing tops this fair.
🏟️ The Commanders Aim to Host 200 Annual Events at New D.C. Stadium. Here's Their Plan.
Driving the news: The Washington Commanders are pitching a bold new vision for their proposed RFK campus stadium in D.C.—one that goes far beyond football.
Details: The team plans to activate the stadium more than 200 nights a year, transforming it into a year-round entertainment and community venue. Their goal: make it a central hub for concerts, private events, sports exhibitions, and public gatherings.
About 20 major events annually, beyond the 10 scheduled NFL games
Possibilities include Final Four games, international soccer matches, and WrestleMania
Plans include using premium spaces and concourses for galas, group events, and community functions
To support this volume, the proposed design includes a roofed stadium with modern infrastructure like a second tunnel and field-level amenities for non-football crowds.
Why it matters: This isn’t just about sports. By turning the stadium into a full-time destination, the Commanders aim to build stronger community ties, drive local business, and increase D.C.’s appeal as a major events city.
It’s also a key part of their push for city approval, showing how the stadium could benefit D.C. well beyond game days.
The big picture: The Commanders are already building non-football expertise at their current Northwest Stadium to prepare for this broader role. The new stadium isn’t just a place to play—it’s a play for long-term relevance in the D.C. events landscape.
The bottom line: More events. More community access. More reasons to visit. If approved, the Commanders’ new stadium could become one of the busiest and most versatile venues in the country.
